Project Run and Play - Week 3

Project Run and Play - Week 3

September 17, 2019

When I heard Week 3's theme -- Sound of Fashion -- iimmediately took me back to a memory of dancing under blue skies with my girls at a music festival. Their carefree movements that day re-inspired me to go with the flow and to live life to the fullest. Drawing on that inspiration and my family's love for indie music -- rock, reggae and folk -- it was only fitting I created a pair of flowy festival designs with a bohemian vibe for my look.

Project Run and Play - Week 2

Project Run and Play - Week 2

September 10, 2019

I'm going to be real honest...when I heard the theme for Week 2 -- Super Hero and Heroines, I freaked out a little. It is sooo out of my realm! I immediately started brainstorming though and was so relieved within a couple hours I had a plan. And then of course didn't sleep well that night because I was working out all the details in my head. I love those full force, creative moments even if it means I don't get much sleep!

Sew Americana Blog Tour

Sew Americana Blog Tour

June 25, 2019

Independence Day is right around the corner, and so with it comes Wild + Wanderful's Sew Americana Blog Tour!  I follow this tour every year, so I'm really excited to be participating in it for the first time.

Nothing says "summer sewing" over here at SSD quite like the Emerie Romper, and wheI think Americana, I think of the peace and love, tie-dye vibe of the 70s. As it turns out, I happen to be a big lover of dying things.

Daybreak - Swimsuit Hack

Daybreak - Swimsuit Hack

May 21, 2019

Soon after the Daybreak release there was an inspiration post made in the Striped Swallow Designs' facebook group of a tankini swimsuit that looked very similar to the Daybreak for the top. My daughter had a school field trip coming up to the waterpark the following week and I knew it would be perfect so I set out on making one the next day. (The photo on the right is from Swimfully.) I used the Into the Blue for my bottoms -- no mods, just skip adding the top of the ITB and they make super cute swimsuit bottoms.

September 27, 2018

The In Motion Leo can be unlined, fully lined, or lined only where you would like. To keep the tutorial simple we went with one construction method; however, if you are lining the front, back or both, you may prefer to enclose some of the seams...

School Capsule Sewing

School Capsule Sewing

August 21, 2018

capsule wardrobe is a minimalist approach to clothing, where each piece is an essential item that coordinates with the other articles.  With Emery's gymnastics-oriented pre-k class in mind, I sewed four tops, four bottoms, and one piece of outerwear to create sixteen outfits, all with movement and activity in mind.  Take a look and see how easy creating a mini capsule really can be!
