Sew Americana Blog Tour

Sew Americana Blog Tour

Independence Day is right around the corner, and so with it comes Wild + Wanderful's Sew Americana Blog Tour!  I follow this tour every year, so I'm really excited to be participating in it for the first time.

Nothing says "summer sewing" over here at SSD quite like the Emerie Romper, and Emery's been asking for some new rompers anyways, so that was a no-brainer.  When I think Americana, I think of the peace and love, tie-dye vibe of the 70s, and as it turns out, I happen to be a big lover of dying things.

I pulled some white modal spandex from So Sew English out of my stash and headed to AC Moore's for dying supplies.  I found a "fun size" dye kit with red, blue, and turquoise, and it was more than enough to for the romper.  I didn't know how the modal would take the color, so I soaked it in soda ash first.  I'm glad I did, because even with the soda ash soak, the colors came out kind of muted.  Which was still great for my 70s, vintage theme, but unexpected.

The bodice and shorts of the romper were sewn up prior to dying, to make it appear as one cohesive dyed piece once worn.  The flounces and straps were cut out but unsewn.

Dying tip: You can hasten the dying process by baking your saturated fabric in the oven at 280 F for about an hour.

Toss in some sweet white daisy trim and my little heart was over the moon excited with how this romper was coming together.

I always have to grade length for Emery, but I am thinking her bodices/tees don't need it nearly as much as her shorts/dresses do.  This girl is all legs.

And also, all sass.  I did not pose her for these pictures.  At all.

Goodness help me, we've got a diva on our hands.  Can you tell she's grown up around the camera?

I love that this tour has me on my A-game, and I won't be scrambling last minute for a cute outfit for this nugget this Fourth of July ;)

xo,
Erin
