I'll be honest with you...I hardly ever sew for myself -- ok, like pretty much never! Ever since my sweet little girl was born 3 years ago, I have been strictly sewing for her, my niece and my Etsy shop. Of course I do have quite a few Coachella Shorts in my closet now, but that's about it as far as handmade clothing goes. Nothing has really sparked my interest where I said "I HAVE to make that for myself"...until I saw Kimberly, of Straight Stitch Designs, post the tester call for her Ravenna Top.
I love the hi-lo hem! (Don't worry if you're not a fan there is an option for a straight hem as well)! Though I have to admit the thing that hooked me and made me bolt to her website to sign up to test immediately -- the exposed zipper! It's been years since I've sewn a zipper in, but I breezed through it thanks to Kimberly's fantastic instructions and clear illustrations.
One more confession :) I live by the beach and work from home...so that means if I'm not in my swim suit, then it's normally a flip flop, shorts, tank top and no make-up kind of day. But you all know that every once in awhile a girl needs to get dressed up and feel pretty...right? I chose to make my top with this beautiful white and gold chambray from Andover and paired it with the teal/gold Cotton+Steel fabric (and the zipper is from Zipper Island). So now this is my go to top for those "I want to feel pretty" kind of days.
You can also choose to forgo adding the ruffles for a more casual top. Kimberly posted an awesome knit version on her blog! When I find some free time I will definitely be sewing one up for my flip flop wearing days. If you haven't grabbed a copy of the Ravenna, I highly recommend that you do!
There is also a HUGE giveaway going on right now over at Nah-connection. Go enter for your chance to win this pattern along with so many other great prizes!
